Invisible Illness (Missionary Blog Carnival) September 8, 2008 06:44
Thanks to those who took the time to be a part of this, the very first, Missionary Blog Carnival! I'm going to feature those who took the time to send in their posts, and I've also added a few others from the past that I thought you might find interesting.
This time the theme was Invisible Illness - things like multiple sclerosis, lupus, cancer, heart disease, migraine, chronic pain, etc.
I do want to mention one thing. I was a little surprised about how few missionaries wrote on this topic. I know a lot of missionaries, and I know that many many deal with invisible illness - in their family, or close friends, or in their ministry! It just seems that this is something that is a huge part of many people's lives, and yet it gets surprisingly little air-time. Why?To learn more about invisible illness, be sure to check out the materials at Invisible Illness Week. There's a conference this week, a blog here, and great materials for you, your family, and your church family all year round at Rest Ministries.
We're going to have another Missionary Blog Carnival! This one will coincide with Blog Action Day 2008, and will focus on the topic of Poverty. If you're a missionary and want to be involved, you can enter right now right here. (Remember, this could be a new post, or one from your archives). The deadline for entry is the 11th of October 2008.

Ramadan September 19, 2008 07:02
We're in the middle of the Muslim month of Ramadan (a perspective on Ramadan here). It's been a while since we've read some posts about Ramadan, so let's take a look at some missionary posts that are related.
Let's start in Indonesia, to see how the fasting of Ramadan changes life for some newcomers. Actually, same blog, earlier post - more general info about Ramadan...
Over in Macedonia, read Ramadan Begins & The Call to Prayer. Stay tuned because Carolyn is hoping to share more about Ramadan as she learns.
This is an interesting one from last year - Bunny Rabbit talks a little about what the children are doing during Ramadan (Niger).
This is not only about Ramadan, but check out the colourful conversation that took place in 7A and B. It really provides some insights into the Muslim world, from a personal level.
An an honourable mention... two blogs are focusing us on prayer for the Muslim world: WBTN and Our "Wright"-ing Pad, using materials from 30-Days International.
(Unrelated note: If you're a missionary, be sure to take part in our current blog carnival, on the topic of poverty. Don't wait until the deadline!)

The Power of Blog Connections September 25, 2008 09:52
I just got an email from Jim and Shelley from Livin' Our Dreams. They shared with me this great story about relationships and blogs that I want to share with you:About a year ago an operator of two Christian Radio Stations in western KS contacted us. He found us on the site and we began communicating. Every so often we would get an encouraging email or note letting us know he had been praying for us.
One of the people groups we work with are the Kekchi and they have a radio ministry that reaches many unreached villages all over Petén. They needed some help repairing their equipment which we know nothing about. They needed a part that we could not find the normal route through google.
We contacted Bill who spoke to his radio engineer who found the part within 24 hours. A pastor in AR bought the part and it is in route to Guatemala to triple the coverage area of the Gospel in the indigenous tongue to people who don't have any other chance to hear it.
Thank you so much for this site [Missionary-Blogs.com]. Just one small story of how God has used it to impact people we won't meet until heaven. Praise the Lord! Thanks to Shelley and Jim for sharing the story.
Here's another post about connections made through blogging.
If you want more exposure for your blog, be sure to be a part of the current Missionary Blog Carnival!
