Half a Decade of Blogging

There are a few blogs represented here that have a special anniversary this year - they have completed a full 5 years of blogging!  Congratulations to you all.  To honour the event, I'm highlighting some of their latest posts.  Be sure to drop by and offer your congrats!

• Finding God in China - wondering if life will always be like a Drunken Stagger, and writing about unexpected parts of Chinese culture in China goes crazy for 'king' James.  Also, check out this Baby Church.
• TheBellSite - actually, they have been quieter lately - read Why we've been sorta quiet lately.  Also find out the latest fun reads in Latest Books, and here's a great picture from the Morning Commute.
• Finding direction is my family blog.  Has it really been 5 years?  Well, you might be interested in the disaster in Mexico - Floods impact a million in Tabasco, Mexico, an audio blog called Where's the Mariachi?, and the debate - Christians are religious. No they're not. Or…
• Mercy Watch celebrates 5 in December.  Check out the story and video at Suah's Story and we 'Celebrate Sight'.  There are lots of Stories to Share ... and every good missionary ends with a sunset.

By the way, 5 years ago George W. Bush signed the Iraq War Resolution, the oil tanker Prestige sank off the Galician coast (oil spill), in Nigeria, more than 100 people were killed at an attack on the Miss World contestants, United Airlines filed for bankruptcy, a suicide truck-bomb attack destroyed the headquarters of Chechnya's Moscow-backed government (72 dead), China Airlines Flight 611 brok up in flight, killing 225, Banco Azteca opened in Mexico, and Jimmy Carter won the Nobel Peace Prize.

I have one - but I want more.  Call me selfish, but I just want to find more blogs from these countries.  One simply isn't enough!  Can you help?

• Bangladesh:  I know of Bangladesh Adventures.  A recent post highlights the need for teachers.
• Bulgaria:  You can check out the Mellingers in Bulgaria, who recently wrote about slippers.
• Croatia:  America to Zagreb was recently writing about an early Christmas present.
• Greece:  How about Mike and Maria Long?  Their recent news includes a Court Case, Bike Trip, and Surgery
• Honduras:  Well, we do have The Sims Family in Honduras.  Their recent post had the eye-catching title Overdue and I am not even pregnant....
• Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast):  Actually, the Farho family has a number of blogs on their site.  Everything from family to fitness is covered here!  Recent posts include Why God allows pain and Youssef's cancer is dead.
• Kazakhstan:  Visit Joe Ragan, who writes about a recent trip in Home again…
• Madagascar:  I do have the Slaubaughs in Madagascar.  Check out a few of their latest pictures here.

These are all great blogs, but they're pretty lonely.  Does anyone know of more blogs from these countries?  Help me out here.

Here are some more lonely blogs.  Come on, folks.  There have to be many more blogs in these countries!

• Singapore:  First, there's the Balzar Bulletin.  Actually, this family is involved in ministry in the greater Pacific area, as you'll see from their post More Light!
• Russia:  Russia is a big country.  We need lots more blogs from here.  Meanwhile, check out McDonald's Russian Blog.  They recently posted about their new vehicle, and a rehab success story.
• Norway:  Kelly Says It Big, recently regarding relationship and revival.
• New Zealand:  Try on Unmasking.  Recently, pondering living without electricity in Radical.
• Namibia:  For a long time we've been reading the Knightly News Update!  They last posted about Random Happenings! (!)

5 countries - anyone have any more blogs from these places?  Let me know!

This blog is famous.

This blog is now famous.  And not just this one, a few others too!

Missionary Blog Watch was mentioned in the October 2007 edition of EMQ (Evangelical Missions Quarterly).  The article, by A. Scott Moreau (editor of EMQ) and Mike O'Rear (President of Global Mapping International) was entitled "An Introduction to Blogging on the Internet".

Actually, it was kind of a passing mention, under the heading of Finding a Blog.

So if any of you are here after reading the article, welcome!  This website is now watching well over 400 missionary blogs.  Many of them are listed in one of the four blog lists, which you can access here.  Or, find a country or continent in the sidebar to the left to learn more about highlighted blogs.

The most exciting thing, though, was not the mention of this site, but the highlighting of a (very) few missionary blogs!  The authors listed their favourite missions-related blogs at the end, and only 3 personal missionary blogs.  Correction - one bonus one was hidden away in the text of the article.  Congrats to these four "famous" blogs:
