A photo caught my eye...
March 2, 2007 17:46

Let's face it - some people will read your post just because of the pictures.  Or maybe they won't bother reading, and they'll just look at the pictures!

I decided to take that approach today, so here are a few posts that caught my eye just because of the pictures...

Camel takes a look

  • Her Dad got hit by a turkey.  Or he hit a turkey.  Whatever.  Really.
  • I used to live in a place like this - a place with lotsa white stuff
  • White stuff with kids in it - that's always cool.
  • You can do it with manure.  And it can be fun.
  • God bless Benin!  And more photos from a time of women's celebration and worship.
  • It looks delicious, but you may be a little surprised to find out what's in this colourful, popular dessert in Malaysia.
  • Investigating a new part of the city in Brazil - Porto Alegre, to be exact.
  • Sudan - what a familiar phrase this is:  "This was a "good" road."
  • You won't be boared by these photos of camp - worship, and baptism in Brazil!  Honestly, I just love baptism photos.
  • It's a recent photo, but it sure takes you back.  The world is always just a little different than you expect it to be...
  • The kids and the camels are all very thankful.
  • As of February, the legendary Caption Challenge has returned!
  • We just can't leave out the baby photos.  There are always so many!  But here's a representation.  We've got Maisie here, there's Jayson here and Livia and Tyler Eric right here.

    Who serves the old?
    March 10, 2007 17:11

I was reading a blog entry today about something special someone did for elderly members of their church.  And it struck me, I really hear very little about ministry to senior citizens these days.  Why is that?  Are people serving the elderly but not blogging about it?  Is it just not cool anymore?  Or maybe most of the ministry is just part of the general church ministry, and so isn't really mentioned?

Ministry to the elderly is challenging, no doubt.  Rewarding, yes.  It takes special wisdom and patience.  But I guess I could be describing any kind of ministry, couldn't I?

The post that started me thinking was Valentine's Dinner For the Elderly.  Apparently, a dinner for the elderly is called a Seniorenessen there.  Who knew?

Here's another older post, partly about a couple who is freed up to serve the elderly because of a current method of theological training.  Read Grass-roots theological training on the mission field.  It's really about the training aspect, which is another interesting topic.  Finally, a post from the Ukraine entitled What Jesus Demands from the World, with some interesting thoughts about missions and the blessings of the elderly believers in Ukraine.

    Two more blog lists online
    March 15, 2007 09:53

Two more blog lists are online!  That means 130 more blogs for you to explore.  First, some bloggers that don't (at the moment) qualify as veterans, but they're still quite experienced.  Check out the experienced missionary bloggers here.

We get closer to the modern age with the up-and-coming missionary bloggers.  These Christian bloggers are still fairly new, but they've been around long enough to make their mark on the blogosphere.

The cool thing is that there are probably quite a few blogs here that you've never seen before.  There have also been some minor changed to the veteran bloggers list - things are frequently being changed and shifted around.  You'll also notice some changes on other pages around the site.  So go ahead, meet some bloggers from around the world and leave them some notes of encouragement!

As always, let me know if you find any mistakes.  I know they're in there somewhere!

    Believers in Brazil
    March 24, 2007 08:49

    This one out of Brazil.

Sometimes it's hard to know how many believers there are in an area, or people group - or in a church, for that matter.  There are those who say they are believers, those who think they are believers, or those who are just confused.  Even if you have a high percentage of believers, how many are willing to lead, to disciple, how many understand enough to share with their neighbours?

This challenge has been brought to light by a survey being done in Porto Alegre, Brazil.  Jeff Dunson, author of M is for Mud Guy, recently posted about some of the things they learned in their survey.  Don't miss his post The Big Survey from yesterday.

For a little more about Brasil, check out Blake's slideshow of his time at camp, a post from the Porters about electricity during church (or lack of) in Lights on, Lights off, and from the Bergquists some recent news from earlier this month in Cristoval 2007.  And there's always lots to read at Comings Communiqué
